Just one of the guys…drinking Cider?

Went out last weekend to try some new bars in the area. Went to Egan & Son’s in Montcliar.

Great atmosphere, crowd seemed a bit older (24-32), over 15 beers on tap, great liquor and wine selection. Was resorting to my gluten, sucrose, fructose and lactose free cocktail; Tequila & Club soda. Not the best tasting thing in the world but it does the trick. No more red face, overheating, stomach aches, heartburn or paying for it the day after.

About an hour into the night I saw that they actually had Magner’s Cider Beer in the mini fridges. A quick crash course…Magner’s is the international brand name that Bulmer’s and Magner’s both use. They are both Ireland-based companies and have yet to really make an impact in the American beer market. It is a great tasting product, goes down smooth, great orange or yellowish hue depending on how cold it is and is great to sip on. Best part is that it is gluten-free and more healthy for you. It is made with apples, takes similiar to apple cider and does not have that classic bitter beer aftertaste. Highly recommend it!

Immediately I switched over to the Magners and the night was truly a success.

Prices were very reasonable. 5 dollars for a tall pint of beer. 6 dollars for a tall (Collins) glass for a mixed drink. No cover.

Downstairs has the large bar and seating for restaurant goers and people looking for delicious bar food. Music is current rock, hip-hop and top 40 hits.

Upstairs, which many do not know about, has more of a lounge ambiance. Comfy couches, can get food upstairs as well, smaller bar that also had Magners, and an extensive scotch and whiskey selection. Music is upbeat club, trance, house and other classic hits.

Rating (1-5, 1 being the best time ever)- 2.5
