Bistango Round 5

Bistango Round 5

Last Thursday, 9/5, went back to Bistango which is an amazing Italian Restaurant on 30th and 3rd in NYC. I  had been there a few times before and was looking for a great dining-out meal that wouldn’t leave me worrying if I was going to be “glutonized” or not. Unfortunately, this experience fell short of the previous 4 stellar food experiences I’ve had here.

To keep it short- with the Jewish New Year the place was packed so I made sure to make a reservation. Thank god we did that because we were seated right away at the last table remaining. Waiter took forever to come over, he took our drink order, I battled with him when he said that Tito’s was gluten free, since the original one is not, but they also make one with corn (which I still can’t have because of sucrose levels in corn, but I digress). They also provide complimentary gluten-free bread, which is always a treat, and you can dip it in the extra virgin olive oil and diced garlic they give you. I got the penne and pesto which was good as usual but the sauce was very runny. We both got the steak dish which use to be two good portions of steak, roasted/or mash potatoes on top of a bed of sauteed spinach. Not sure if they changed the dish for good or had food they wanted to push but it came out with raw sliced tomatoes, onions and chunks of avocado. I sent it back and they gave me the bare dish of steak and arugula which was fine. Skipped the espresso and headed to Eataly since we were dying for something truly authentic.
